The Alberta Men's Hockey League provides a well managed and organized environment for adult recreational hockey teams.
The league strives to provide a safe playing environment by enforcing the Hockey Canada rules in addition to AMHL specific rules. Refer to the AMHL Rules for more information.
Seasons | The AMHL has a winter season that runs from September to April and a summer season that runs from May to August. |
Divisions | The League places teams according to their caliber and therefore, division sizes may vary. The number of divisions depends on how many teams register and the ability of the teams.The League will make any reasonable changes by moving teams up or down in divisions. If required, an adjustment will be made to the team's points. |
Game Format | All games are 1.5 hours with a flood every 2 periods.Games consist of three 20-minute running time periods.With this format teams will get more ice time especially during games with fewer whistles. Line changes are allowed on all whistles. |
Number ofGames | Winter: 30 Regular Season Games, starting the first week of September and playoffs are in April.Summer: 16 regular season games, starting the first week of May and playoffs are in August. |
Location of Arenas | All arenas are in Edmonton & surrounding Area. Both north and south side locations are used. All rinks are regulation size. |
Days of Play | Winter:The League operates 7 days per week in the evenings on weekdays and throughout the day on weekends.Summer:In summer the league operates in the evenings from Monday to Thursday. No games are scheduled on weekends during the summer. |

Fees Include | Regular season and playoff ice. Summer Game Schedule: Monday through Thursday; no weekend games and very few late game times. Teams will have 1 or 2 games starting at 10pm or later throughout the season. |
Refunds | League Administration sets the team season fees. Each Team Representative is responsible for collecting fees from the players and submitting the team fees to League Administration.Payments, including deposits, submitted to League Administration on behalf of a Team are generally non-refundable. However, refunds may be given only under special circumstances which are subject to the discretion of League Administration on a case by case basis. |
Insurance | Registered players have player accident insurance through CARHA. IMPORTANT: Players must wear either a half visor and mouth guard or full facial protection to be eligible for dental coverage.For more information on coverage or to submit a claim, contact the league office. |
